Fears & Phobias
You're Not Alone
More than 10 million people in the UK live with a phobia, that's around one in six of us. If you're struggling with an irrational fear that limits your life, you're far from alone. But here's the important question: do you have to keep living with those limitations?
What Is a Phobia?
A phobia is an overwhelming fear that feels out of proportion to any real danger. It might be triggered by insects, heights, confined spaces, social situations, or even the thought of being sick. Whatever form it takes, the impact is real: discomfort, intense fear, and sometimes full-blown panic.
When you encounter your phobia, or even anticipate it, your body responds with physical symptoms you'll probably recognise: sweaty palms, racing heart, pounding head, nausea, or a churning stomach. You might find yourself carefully organising your life to avoid triggers or seeking escape routes at the first sign of discomfort.
How I Can Help
Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy offers one of the most effective, evidence-based treatments for phobias: systematic desensitisation. This approach combines deep relaxation with gradual exposure, allowing you to face your fears safely and at your own pace.
We'll start by teaching you powerful relaxation techniques. Then, using hypnosis, visualisation, and guided imagery, you'll practice encountering your fear in a controlled, comfortable way. Step by step, we'll build toward real-life exposure, always moving at a pace that feels right for you.
For some phobias, particularly social ones, we may also work on additional skills like assertiveness to give you even more confidence and control. Explore all areas I support with hypnotherapy here.
